SummerJam 2014

This weekend we spent our time camping in Köln 

on the Fühlinger lake with Fabi's Old School buddies

 for the 29th annual SummerJam Music Festival.

SUMMERJAM = Enjoying the sun...

Hmmm....sunbathing on asphalt...
a quick remedy for the chills.

Ooo....a "new perspective"! 


  Bier Ernte

            As the first few days were deliciously hot,we had to be creative with our cooling system. 
Fabi initiated a masterful plan involving a bag filled with beverages(beer),rocks to weight it down,a rope attached to the bag so that is can be lowered to the bottom in cold water and lastly clipping the top of the rope with a carabiner to a floating buoy.(as shown below)    

After hours of cooling,it was time for the "beer harvest"(Bier Ernte)

Clearly we can tell whom the Germans are...

You can find them passed out in the middle of the day.

they don't stop till they drop!

Games = The Diabolo
Is a juggling game consisting of an axle and two cups or discs. This object is spun using a string attached to two hand sticks. A huge variety of tricks is possible with the diabolo, including tosses and various types of interaction with the sticks, string, and various body parts. Multiple diabolos can be spun on a single string.

 Diabolos evolved from the Chinese yo-yo

 The Greek word "diabolos" means "the liar

Now know as the  the devil stick.

 Typically, the user pulls the string with stick in his or her dominant hand so that the string moves along the axle, turning the axle. By doing this repeatedly, the diabolo rotates faster 

Fabi spinning like a 'BOSS"! Really,what can't he do!

And then came the Rain...

but then again...we are in Germany.

And the acts went on....

The artists kept coming, feet kept tapping to the tunes.

  the ground below us was far from dry,

 we raised our fists up to the sky

 the sun granted us momentary peace

as we enjoyed the sounds of "IRIE RÉVOLTES"

 Braids and flowers adorned ladies hair

 Rasta exchanges with peace signs tossed midair

"Chinese Man"let their Trombones blare

the crowd had their own unique flare!

Evenings on the lake take your breath away

 light on the water  beckons "come play"

      

 "SEEED" with 11 band members, including three singers, a horn section and a DJ
Brought their own stage & had us all in a rhythmic trance 

Germany's most popular reggae musicians from Berlin,
with their unusually rad use of horns you cant help but shimmy and dance.

Until the fireworks shimmered their final farewells as we
in unison sang "Redemption song" 

Rain,rainbows,sunshine,music,magic,memories shared,
new friends,old friends new tunes,oldies...
