Berlin with my bestie!

Berlin with my bestie!
Eleven Years ago I met this beauty in Guanajuato, Mexico while studying at the language University. We instantly became best friends!
Last year Verena came to San Diego for a visit.
Now we meet again in Berlin.
We always said one day we will be in Germany together!

Halo Verena! We have arrived in Berlin,
the capital city and largest city in Germany !

Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church is the symbolic centre of West Berlin,
an anti- war memorial to peace and reconciliation

It was badly damaged in a bombing raid in 1943
during WWII, the original,
west Tower has remained standing as a ruin and is hauntingly named the “hollow tooth”
as it is literally an empty husk.
this is the only building on the square which was spared by the bombing and deliberately preserved as a part ruin.
From inside  BIKINI BERLIN integrates the world’s first Concept Mall, a collection of carefully curated and compatible boutiques, concept and flagship stores.

The architectural highlights, like the rooftop terrace behind the Bikinihaus with views of the Zoological Garden,  and the large hall below the rooftop terrace, the so-called BIKINI BERLIN POOL, offer space for new ideas and trends. Here, visitors will find a unique marketplace with twenty stationary pop-up stores, the BIKINI BERLIN BOXES, which can be rented for up to one year. Variety is therefore guaranteed. The BIKINI BERLIN POOL also includes a large event space for special events or exhibitions. The innovative shopping concept of BIKINI BERLIN ensures constant flux, remaining surprising and flexible and inspiring exciting dialogue.

The Spree

 Fernsehturm (TV Tower),
the second tallest structure in the
European Union. It was intended as a symbol of Berlin,
which it remains today,
as it is easily visible throughout the central and some suburban districts of Berlin. With its height of 368 meters,

forget the food stand, be the food stand.

The Weltzeituhr (Worldtime Clock)

The world clock is a clock which displays the time for various cities around the world
The display can take various forms.

I love Berlin because everything is art!!!!

12 hour bike tour around Berlin...now this is really seeing the city.

We found a Community garden in the city!!!

What a delight! I want to create more of these around San Diego.

They even have bees!

More art expression!

Berliner Dom

Brandenburg and Berlin states of Germany

The Brandenburg Gate  the former city gate,
rebuilt in the late 18th century as a neoclassical triumphal arch, and now one of the most well-known landmarks of Germany

Bundestag
The Reichstag building is a historical edifice in Berlin, Germany, constructed to house the Imperial Diet, of the German Empire. It was opened in 1894 and housed the Diet until 1933, when it was severely damaged in a fire.
After its completion in 1999, it once again became the meeting place of the German parliament: the modern Bundestag.

The Holocaust Memorial,
officially named the Monument to the Murdered Jews in Europe
designed by U.S. architect Peter Eisenman's controversial design was chosen as a fitting tribute to the Jews that died before and during World War II as part of Hitler's plan to exterminate them.

The slabs undulate in a wave-like pattern. Each is a five-sided monolith, individually unique in shape and size. Some are only ankle high while others tower over .Eisenman hoped to create a feeling of groundlessness and instability; a sense of disorientation.
Occupying about 205,000 square feet (19,000 square meters) of space near the Brandenburg Gate and just a short distance from where the ruins of Hitler's bunker is buried, the Berlin Holocaust Memorial is made up of 2,711 gray stone slabs that bear no markings, such as names or dates.

Market IX or Eisenbahnmarkthalle (railway market hall)

The market is full of vendors & glorious smells with their concept of providing sustainable, predominantly local goods directly to their customers.

not only does the market offer unique handicrafts and local culinary delights but also satisfy the hungry cultural soul as architectural landmark gems offering one of a kind ambiences.
